Bonding Over Beauty: A Mother-Daughter Beauty Guide - Review & GIVEAWAY!

Bonding Over Beauty by Erika Katz
If you happen to be the mother of a tween girl, then you know that sometimes relating to your daughter at this age can sometimes be challenging, to put it mildly. Living on the cusp of teenagerdom, tween girls want to be independent and grown up. They're caught in between two stages - not quite little girls, and not quite teens. Sometimes they might be more interested in what their friends have to say than what their idiotic mothers have to say. Sometimes they might want to spend time with their friends more than they want to hang with their ultra uncool mothers. Of course the media doesn't help. If your tween daughter watches television, uses the Internet, reads magazines, goes to school, or pretty much just ever leaves the house, chances are she is feeling the pressure to grow up.

But here's the thing. Even though your little girl sometimes wants so badly to not need her mama anymore, she does. Actually she needs you now more than ever. She needs your guidance. She needs you to help her make the right choices. She needs you to be there for her.

Bonding Over Beauty, by Erika Katz is "a mother-daughter beauty guide to foster self-esteem, confidence, and trust" (taken from the book cover). This book is chock full of beauty tips to share with your daughter. There are recipes for homemade facial masks and scrubs, tips for how to teach her your daughter to apply make-up, shave, take care of personal hygiene, and more. There are tips for mother-daughter bonding activities in each chapter. The book also covers nutritional information to help your daughter's body look and feel as healthy as possible.

Katz's guide is a great reference guide for mother's of daughters of any age, but particularly tweens. There is a lot of fabulous and useful information. Some of it is a bit far-fetched in my opinion. For instance, I don't think it's practical to insist a visit to the dermatologist is in order every single time a black head pops up on your daughter's sweet face. For most people, that is simply not going to happen. I've never in my life been to the dermatologist to have a blackhead removed, although I don't doubt that might be the "best" method to get rid of one. Despite the few instances of impractical advice, this is a book I'll keep handy and refer to often as my daughters grow up.

My daughter has recently announced that she doesn't want to be a 'girly girl'. This book would be a great way for her to explore her new feelings as she grows.
