I don't like Christmas music before Thanksgiving, or Christmas decorations the day after Halloween. I can't stand to see holiday displays in stores before we've packed up the costumes and thrown away the pumpkins. But Christmas shopping is something I have to start thinking about early. I love figuring out what to buy for each of the kids and doing research to find the best prices. Of course, with four kids, Christmas shopping is also a bit of a logistical budgeting nightmare. We need to get a lot of bang for our buck, and we have to plan carefully.
One option to consider when shopping for holiday gifts is the free layaway at Kmart. When I was a kid, my mom regularly took advantage of this service.. Nowadays, Kmart layaway is better than ever. I love that you can shop online and virtually place items in layaway. You can even make your bi-weekly payments online, and just pick up your items at your local Kmart store when the layaway is paid off. As a busy mom, I do quite a bit of my shopping online, so this is a fabulous feature. In years past, I spent a good portion of my youth waiting in long lines to start layaways and make payments, and this new online way sounds like a much better deal to me!
Some other stores, such as Walmart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us, also offer a layaway option for holiday shopping. How do they measure up? Take a look at this comparison grid and I think you'll see for yourself that the Kmart layaway is the better choice.

Bethany isn't into toys anymore, but she does love to play with her hair. I think she'd love to have one of these curling irons to call her own. Then she can quit taking mine!
This year, Kmart has the Big Layaway Giveaway going on, just in time for holiday layaways. Every week, from 9/9/12 to 11/17/12, one winner will be chosen from each participating Kmart store to have her layaway paid off! Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway would most definitely be a huge help to our family this holiday season!
