Book Review: Game of Secrets by Dawn Tripp
The events of Game of Secrets, by Dawn Tripp, seem straightforward enough at first glance, yet unanswered questions linger on the fringe. It's a mystery, a love story, and a family drama, all rolled into one neat, New England package.
Life in a small town can be intrusive. Everyone knows everybody else's business...or do they? At times it may seem boring and stagnant, like there is nothing else left to discover. In the case of Game of Secrets, that couldn't be further from the truth. There are plenty of skeletons in the closets, but maybe it's better if they stay there.
The death of Jane Weld's father was a scandal, especially considering the speculation concerning the circumstances of his unfortunate demise. Years later, Jane finds herself befriending her father's mistress Ada, even though everyone seems to believe it was Ada's husband who killed Jane's dad. The two ladies, joined by their love of the same dead man, meet for a game of Scrabble every week. When Jane's daughter becomes romantically involved with Ada's son, the situation becomes even more complicated. The game intensifies. Will those skeletons come tumbling out, after all?
Tripp writes poetically, spinning to life realistic characters; flawed, misinformed, judgmental, and loving the best way they know how. Add Game of Secrets to your summer reading list!
Game of Secrets was released in paperback on June 5. It is available on Amazon, Game of Secrets: A Novel
