Thankful Thursday: School's Out For Summer

Wednesday was FINALLY Bethany, Connor, & Lucy's last day of school. Finally. I am so happy I could cry.

Our Summer break is off to a good start already. The 3 big kids each had a friend (or 2) over after school, and played and played and played for hours. Inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs. Bethany and her friends walked to McDonald's for lunch, where they were bombarded by 8th graders and sprayed with shaving cream. This gave them the idea to walk to the store and buy silly string, but when they got there they discovered that shaving cream is cheaper, so they bought that instead. And came back to the house and had a shaving cream fest all over the backyard, including the trampoline. Thankfully it rained most of the night, so with any luck the shaving cream stench will be washed away.

I managed to get to church to sign Lucy up for VBS, which is something I've been meaning to do for weeks. Lucy's best friend will be going too, and I'm happy that she will have a fun activity to do.

Lucy and Mathilda (& Lucy's friend) had dance, and since their recital is coming up next week, they wore their costumes to class. This is the kind of thing I dread, but it went pretty well. Bethany helped get Mattie ready, which was a big help. They looked so adorable in their costumes and barely grumbled about the itchy fabric and the annoying buns in their hair. When I went into Mathilda's class to watch, she asked me to record her, and because she loves an audience she put on quite a little show for me. She was pretty much doing her own thing, but she was happy and enjoying herself, and the faces she was making were cracking me up. I honestly don't care what she does at the recital as long as she gets on the stage and doesn't cry. I have been trying to get myself to accept that she might not, which will stink, but liking her classes is more important. If she won't dance on recital night, so be it. She's four. There are worse things.

I made breakfast for dinner and everyone liked it, cleaned their plates, and had seconds. This is always a relief, especially because it doesn't happen often. I almost always have at least one grumbler. Actually, one of the kids was slightly pouty at first because we weren't getting pizza, but I'm pretty sure CPS would come for me if I fed my kids pizza one more time in a one week period. Once the food was made, everyone was happy with it.

I finished the book I was reading to review. Although I'm not entirely happy with the book, I'm glad to be done with it ahead of schedule for once. The review will be published Saturday.

I hosted a preschool board meeting at our house on Tuesday night, so we are starting out the summer break with a clean house. When I say clean house, I am not counting anybody's bedroom. Even my own. Although we had four extra kids here for the afternoon, it's still pretty clean. Hopefully it can stay that way. Don't laugh too hard.

We have a lot of exciting things planned for the summer, and I can't believe it's finally here! The next couple weeks are actually crazy busy, so it's not too much of an actual break, I suppose. Looking at my calendar, we have the two crazy weeks, one week that's got nothing planned so far, and then another four weeks of craziness, and then the final four weeks with not much planned so far. We have some flexibility to do our own thing, and I think that's what makes me so happy. That and not setting my alarm every day. And seeing my kids more. And not dealing with homework struggles. And the heat, if it ever decides to act like summer around here. Not having to be so rigid, in general. Whatever the reason(s), this is my happiest time of year. I am so thankful for summertime!

Thankful Thursday

www.michigalmom.com

I am so thankful for a lot this week. My blessings are endless!

On Sunday, we had a really lovely time at the Birmingham Village Fair. My mom came along with the kids and me, as well as one of Bethany's friends. It was the cleanest cut carnival I've ever been to, and we had lots of fun! I was glad that Bethany had someone with her to go on all the nausea-inducing rides, Lucy and Mattie went on all the little kid rides together, and even Connor found a few things to do. It's probably even a good thing that the credit card machines were down so I had to stop buying junk food. Thanks to Emily at Hay There Media for giving me such a great opportunity to work as a Tweet Team member and help spread the word about this annual community event.

Mattie's been out of school for a couple weeks now, so it's been being home with just her for a little bit before summer break officially begins (next Wednesday at 11:24, not that I'm counting the hours or anything). The other day we met my friend at an indoor play area with her daughter, who is also four, and Mattie's best friend. While the girls played, we got to talk and catch up, and I'm so happy to still have this wonderful friend over 25 years later. I was thinking how funny it is how I can still have so much in common with someone I met in 7th grade. And how lucky I am!

Not only did we have fun talking and playing, but she had just cleaned out her closet and brought me a bunch of really cute clothes and shoes! I swear 3/4 of my wardrobe consists of hand-me-downs! I barely have to buy myself anything.

Wednesday another good friend met me at the gym, and the time just flies by while we chat on side by side treadmills. She is a positive influence in my life, and I'm grateful for the forces that brought us together (our kids were in class together at our previous elementary school).

Today my mom, Mattie, and I met up with a long lost cousin I haven't seen in many years, and her grandma (who is my mom's aunt and my great-aunt). She brought her kids with her, so I got to meet them for the first time, and it was really nice to re-establish some family bonds. We were re-connected by total coincidence via Facebook. Sometimes social media is good for something besides just wasting time!

I'm about to go pick my kids up from school, and then they have only 4.5 days left! I cannot wait for summer to finally be here! It's a good week to be thankful!

What are you thankful for this week?

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my new iPhone, which amuses me anytime I have a spare second. Boredom is a thing of the past.

I am thankful for all the fun stuff we've been able to do lately, much of it courtesy of this wonderful blogging thing.

I am thankful for packages. Never gets old seeing the UPS or FedEx guy stopping in front of my house.

I am thankful that next week is field trip week for Mathilda. It's gonna be so much fun!

I am thankful that I took Mathilda to preschool on a day when the 4s class was in session, and now that she's seen what it's all about, she is totally not nervous about moving on next year. Also, she was shocked and amazed to find that they have the same parking lot, the same teachers, the same tables, and the same toys. What a concept!

I am thankful for these preschool years, which are just too precious and fleeting.

I am thankful that my big kids look forward to our reading time every night.

I am thankful for the beautiful forecast in our immediate future. Sunshine! A reprieve from rain! Warmth! YES!!!

I am thankful that I went to sleep early the past couple nights, even if that means I didn't get lots of stuff done that I needed to get done.

I am thankful for gym time. Nothing clears my head like a good workout!

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursday

I don't feel much like writing a thankful post at the moment. I feel more like complaining about the stubborn 3-year old who makes us late for everything, and the crappy weather and lots of other things. But. I'm not going to do that. (Even though I kind of just did??)

Even when I'm crabby and irritable as all get out, I still have endless blessings in my life. In fact, when I'm feeling like crud, these are the times when it's even more important for me to take a few moments and focus on the positive.

Deep breath.

My family is so blessed to have taken an awesome Spring Break vacation this year. It was really beautiful, and I hope and pray that my kids treasure the memories of this trip. We did so many fun things, and a lot of it was made possible by:

  • Being able to stay at my brother-in-law's house (his big, comfortable house, with 2 guest bedrooms!).
  • Chris's parents giving us a little cash for our trip, which help to fund all the extra things we ended up doing.
  • Chris's mom letting us borrow her van, since our van needs a little work done before it could be trusted to take a 2000+ mile journey.
  • Legoland coupons in Lego Club Magazine (and my friend Jill for giving us one of hers, which meant we were able to get 3 of our kids in for free). Kids' tickets are $71 a pop, so this was no small thing.
  • My mom, who stayed with our dog while we were gone; and my father-in-law, my cousin, and our babysitter, who all took turns checking on and feeding the dog while my mom was at work.
  • Groupon for giving us a good deal on admission to Jungle Adventures
  • American Express points, for getting us into Sea World for free.
Also, the weather was wonderful the whole time we were in Florida, and the kids were little troopers throughout our marathon drives, there and back. Every single day was full of fun, and I am so thankful for the great times we had together.

I just realized that there's only about eight weeks left of school. Big reason to be thankful!

All this rain is hopefully going to give us some nice green grass and higher lake levels for all the boaters.

My mother-in-law picked Mattie up Wednesday night for a sleepover, & is taking her to & from preschool today.

We are all going to see Scooby Doo Live this weekend at the Fox Theatre, and I'm really looking forward to it! Should be a fun family day!

Chris is starting a new job next week, which should be a really big positive thing for us.

Catechism is over at the end of the month, which means a little less running around.

It's supposed to be in the 50s next week - I'll take it!

Okay, that's about all I can muster at the moment. What are YOU thankful for this week?

Thankful Thursday

Since we are now in lovely, sunny Florida, let's talk about how thankful I am for being here.

I am so SO SO thankful to have a brother-in-law who decided it would be cool to live in Florida and who has a nice big house that he lets us stay in whenever we want. Of course, we would love if he lived closer and we got to see him more often, but if he had to move away, at least he chose some place good.

I am so thankful to everyone who is back in Michigan and helping to take care of our dog. I know she loves it every time one of you comes over and we really appreciate your help!

I am so thankful to my in-laws for loaning us their slightly larger and way more comfortable van to take to Florida. And that built in DVD player sure does help too.

I am thankful that my brother-in-law finagled some free Disney passes for us.

I am thankful for LEGO Club Magazine for publishing great coupons for Legoland, and for anyone who gave me a coupon or offered me one.

I am thankful for all the wonderful memories our family has of our Florida vacations over the years. We have spent some very happy days and weeks in Florida, and I hope the kids remember at least some of it!

I am thankful that I was able to convince my reluctant husband that we should definitely take this trip.

I am thankful that we got to drive to Florida this time, although flying would be faster. This was our first time driving to Florida as a family, and you know me, I think road trips are way fun!

I am thankful, oh so thankful, for a reprieve from the cold Michigan weather.

I am thankful that we have a place to do our laundry before we come back home!

What are you thankful for this wee?

Thankful for Lucy

Lucy shares a birthday with her Grandpa
Today, in honor of September 11, I am thankful for Lucy. She was born on September 11, 2006. In case you're not so good at math, she just turned 6 on Tuesday. Because of her, 9/11 has a very special meaning for our family. Instead of brooding and being sad, we celebrate. Because Lucy is something to celebrate.

Lucy is a sweet and gentle soul. She's a little shy, and last year her kindergarten teacher told me that she barely made a peep in class all year. Yet she loves to dance, and has no problem getting up on a stage in front of hundreds of people. When Lucy grows up, she wants to be a ballerina. Her slender and slight (yet tall!) little form definitely looks the part of ballet dancer.

So excited!
For her birthday, Lucy asked only for three My Little Pony dolls. That's it. She told everybody the same thing: Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Apple Jack. And when she opened her gifts she was so thrilled and excited about every single thing she received. Yes, she got the ponies, along with several other things. To see her literally jumping up and down and shrieking because she loved her presents so much was really gratifying. She's appreciative, and I hope it lasts. As I've mentioned, she didn't want a birthday party with her friends this year. She only wants me to take her out for ice cream this weekend with one good friend. And she is happily anticipating this simple treat as if she were heading to Disney World.

Hardly a day goes by that Lucy doesn't squeeze me hard and remind me that to her, I am "the best mommy ever." She loves to cuddle, to be held, to be read to, to share millions of hugs and kisses, and she is very free and generous with her affections. Her entire life she has been like this. As an infant, she would snuggle into me so comfortably, and be content to be held for hours. She brought me a sense of peace then, like her very presence was enough to calm me and remind me to be grateful for my life and my family. And today I am thankful that she has brought our family six years of joy and love. I am proud of her efforts in school, and the way she tries to be the very best big sister to Mathilda. I am proud of her loving nature, and the kindness she shows her friends.

Lucy Goosy, you're a good egg. And I can't believe you're 6!

Love those dimples, and those little round cheeks!

Thankful Thursday

I have so much to be thankful for!

It's been raining like crazy nuts around here, so our little apple tree has been getting plenty of water AND maybe our lawn won't be quite so crispy anymore. Also, I'm so thankful that our basement hasn't flooded! Plus the rain has held off during key times, like when we were hanging out at the pool yesterday and during our friends' 4th of July party last night. I especially love convenient rain.

Our air conditioning has been humming along like a little trooper. Which, when temps are literally reaching 100+, is really something to be thankful for! I feel for those who have lost power or have no a/c to get through these heat waves.

My friends...I love them so much! I put up a post on Facebook asking if anyone had an umbrella stroller I could borrow for our trip so I could maybe save myself from spending more money in the ocean of money I'm already spending, and a whole bunch of friends right away offered me a stroller to borrow or even keep. Big shout out to Pauline who gave me a cute umbrella stroller that was rarely used for anything other than walking dolls around the house!

We've been spending so much time swimming this summer, and I'm so grateful to have pools at our disposal that we can pretty much use anytime we want. Chris's dad has a really nice pool, and he is hardly ever around to enjoy it. So we get to go hang out in his backyard and take advantage of having a beautifully maintained pool all to ourselves. Plus Chris's mom lives in a city with an awesome "residents-only" park and pool that we also get to utilize. Life is good.

Mattie has been getting more sleep and, like magic, she is a whole heck of a lot less crabby. Thank goodness, because when that kid is crabby, it's ugly.

Although I still haven't packed a lick for vacation (which starts tomorrow...), I realized our check-in isn't until later in the day, and it's not terribly far away, so we don't have to leave early. Which means I can put off  finish packing tomorrow and not over-stress about it today.

A fun fourth of July. The fourth seems to be a holiday that is not generally very memorable. I can't think of what we usually do, but it's kind of like New Year's for us. Which is to say, pretty non-eventful. This year we spent the rain-free hours of the afternoon at my mother-in-law's pool, hung out and ate at her house, then switched gears and headed to our friends' party for the evening. Since good fireworks are now legal in Michigan, we had a nice show right in the street in front of their house. There were tons of kids and lots of friends, and it was a good way to spend the holiday. Thank you to Tina & Todd for hosting!

After a trip to the post office today, I will be done with a big project I've been working on for preschool. I predict a huge weight being lifted from my shoulders the moment I leave the post office.

The vacation the kids and I are having with my mother-in-law, starting tomorrow. It will be really nice hanging out at the beach and relaxing for a week! Every summer she rents a cottage for us to enjoy with her, how lucky are we?

Chris and I remembered to take the trash out last night when we got home from the party. Last week we didn't get the recycling out in time and we have two overflowing recycle bins. I will be so happy when they are empty again! Even though there is already a new pile of recycle stuff in the kitchen that will be going in an empty bin as soon as one's available.

What are you thankful for today?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a $50 Hard Rock Cafe gift card!

Thankful Thursday

I'm taking a moment out of my currently hectic life to reflect on all that I have to be thankful for this week...

I'm thankful...

That Bethany & Lucy's dress rehearsal went off without a hitch. Although I put the wrong color tights on Lucy after all.

For our air conditioned house, especially in the 90+ degree weather we've been having.

That at least one of our vehicles has air conditioning that actually works, and that I could drive the girls to the dance rehearsal in it.

That one of the moms from dance told me about sock buns last week, and I was able to figure out how to do it in Lucy's hair. Bethany doesn't have enough hair, but I still managed to pull off a pretty decent bun for her too, albeit not a sock bun.

For my mom coming to pick Lucy up from dress rehearsal after she was done with her number, so she didn't have to sit there until almost 10:00 with Bethany and I.

Watching my girls dancing up on stage. I am in awe every time I see it, especially because I don't think anyone  could have paid me to get up on a stage and dance when I was a kid.

For basketball camp at the high school that Bethany has been going to this week with some of her friends.

That Bethany's end of the year/5th grade graduation party she had with some school friends a few days ago went smoothly. Nothing broken, no terrible messes, and I don't even think anyone cried.

For my father-in-law's pool. If the summer continues to be this hot, we'll be spending a whole lot of time in it.

That I got Connor in the Lego class session I wanted, and that his friend got in too. Which means more driving around like a maniac next week. Wheeeee!

For flip flops. I need some new ones because mine are pretty beat up, but I still love them. There is no better shoe for hot summer days.

For a fun Bunco night a few days ago.

What are you thankful for this week?

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for...

Being able to attend Bethany's last field trip of elementary school last week. And that she still wants me to go on her class field trips. Wonder how long that will last?

Watching the whole 5th grade do a choreographed dance together on the last day of school. They have performed this dance before, at the Talent Show and during school, so it wasn't my first time seeing it, but I still think it's a pretty awesome thing they got to do.

School's out for SUMMER!!! Need I say more?

Beautiful weather.

The gorgeous rose bush in front of my house that blooms straight through to Thanksgiving.

My house being clean for one glorious day. That day is done, but its memory lives on.

A lovely visit with Chris's family over the weekend.

The new apple tree that Chris's step-dad and uncle just planted for us in our backyard last weekend. I vow to NOT KILL THE APPLE TREE! I can't wait to have apples growing in my own backyard!

My own homemade carrot cake. It's good, I must admit.

That Chris put up a clothes line for me in the backyard. I am so ridiculously excited about this! I have my second load of laundry drying on it right now. I have visions of saving us tons of money while enjoying the fresh scent of line-dried laundry. Ahhhhh.

All the dates are falling into place so nicely for our upcoming road trip. I have a lot of planning to do! Happy planning!

Thankful Thursday

I've been an utter crab lately, so I really need this reminder today of all that I have to be thankful for!

I'm thankful for...

The end of another school year...11:25 Friday morning cannot come soon enough!

The HUGE 32 ounce jar of coconut oil Tropical Traditions sent me. (You can WIN your own!)

Having a fun afternoon with just Connor, seeing an advance screening of Madagascar 3.

A really cool new giveaway I'll be announcing within the next week or so. Can't wait!

Being a SAHM...especially because it means I can do things like attend the 5th grade award ceremony without thinking twice about it

Chris's willingness to run to Meijer at midnight if we're out milk for the morning.

Good (medical) test results for a friend this week.

The new apple tree that is going to be planted in our yard this week.

The little slide I just bought from a friend for Mathilda. As predicted, she loves it.

The ability to laugh, instead of losing my sh*t when Mathilda pulls her crazy antics. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I do lose my sh*t, but it's so much more pleasant when I laugh instead.

Another free trial of Reading Eggs, which Lucy loves and she's whizzing right through it. Our trial should take us through most of the summer. Stay tuned for a review in the coming weeks!

Lucy's friend's mom for having the foresight to send her daughter to school with a note for me - with her phone number & email address on it - so we can get the girls together this summer.

What are you thankful for today?

I'm Thankful for Fifth Grade Field Trips: Greenfield Village

I spent my day at Greenfield Village with a bunch of fifth graders. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor field trip - not too warm, not too cool; not too sunny, not too cloudy. Just right. I am thankful that I was able to go with Bethany as a chaperone. The fifth graders are all going roller skating on the last day of school next week, but this was her last "real" field trip of elementary school. After three years at this school, I know many of the kids and the parents, and it was nice walking around with other moms who I have come to consider my friends, and watch our kids run around and have fun together.

If you're from the Metro Detroit area, you almost definitely know about Greenfield Village. It is a huge tourist attraction around here, and for good reason. There is an indoor museum, The Henry Ford Museum, and then there is the outdoor historical museum, Greenfield Village. Greenfield Village is massive. Employees walk around in full costume, doing demonstrations on stuff like glass blowing, candle making, typesetting, and weaving. So you can go in, for example, an old print shop, and an employee will show you how they use to make newspapers in the days before computers. Or you can go in an old house, and a costumed employee might be in the kitchen cooking real food, and pause to tell you a little about what life was like during whichever historical period that house happens to be from. There is also a farm with real working animals, and there are a few different rides, including a train, Model T cars, and a carousel. Once a year Thomas the Train makes an appearance, which Connor and Lucy enjoyed when they each went through their Thomas stage.

Today I am thankful for
  • good field trips
  • being able to chaperone
  • helpful grandmas who are willing to babysit
  • Greenfield Village, which I have been visiting since I was a little girl
  • beautiful spring days
  • Bethany's friends
  • mom friends
  • getting back to school early, and signing all of my kids out 45 minutes before the bell
What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursday

I  try to make time every single day to be thankful, and to write about gratitude at least once a week here on the 'ol blog. I invite you to join me, and to leave a comment either here or on my Facebook page telling me what you are thankful for this week.

I am thankful that we are working out our transportation needs while Chris's new car debacle gets ironed out. I won't even go there, because then I will begin feeling something a little less than gratitude.

I am thankful for sometimes being able to offer giveaways here on MichiGal. I love winning stuff and I love giving you all a chance to win something too! Hopefully I will get to do even more giveaways in the future. But for now, click HERE to enter to win a free bottle of Purex laundry detergent!

I am thankful for a good 3-year check up for Mathilda this morning, although she does have a mild respiratory infection. (Also thankful for nebulizers!)

I am thankful that Bethany gets to head out of town with a friend this weekend, and that her friend's mom is so generous for letting her daughter bring a friend on vacation with them.

I am thankful that we had a nice birthday dinner for Mattie last weekend.

I am thankful that I didn't get stuck at jury duty all week.

I am thankful that Connor has been able to spend some quality time with friends lately, because that poor kid is exposed to way too much estrogen on a day-to-day basis.

I am thankful that all of the dates for our big road trip are falling perfectly into place.

I am thankful that my dog doesn't even flinch when Mattie climbs all over her. She's neurotic, but she really is the sweetest dog.

I am thankful for the 3 1/2 day weekend coming up.

I am thankful that Bethany is really excited to start middle school.

I am thankful that I get to go on a field trip with Bethany's class next week. And thankful that I can pretty much always get either my mom or Chris's mom to babysit for stuff like that.

Thankful Thursday

I have so much to be thankful for!

I'm thankful that Bethany is home, safe & sound. I missed my girl!

I'm thankful that she had a wonderful time in Florida, and that I have such an awesome brother-in-law who went all out for his niece.

I am thankful that a friend of mine has had a massive improvement in her health. I've been praying for her for a long time, and those prayers have been answered!

I am thankful that my mother-in-law's health scare yesterday appears to be nothing to worry about after all, thank goodness!

I am thankful for the fun grown-up night out I had with my friend Tina last week at The Moth story slam at Cliff Bell's. And I am especially thankful that Tina drove, considering that it was storming something fierce the whole way home (and my nighttime + pouring rain vision is not so good). Thank you, Tina, for telling me about The Moth...I look forward to going again!

I am thankful that I get to go to the zoo with Lucy's kindergarten class next week. I can't believe kindergarten is almost over!

I am thankful that my mom invited me to an alternative health seminar the other night. It was a very informative evening, and I learned quite a bit.

I am thankful that Connor brought a friend home with him after school yesterday (it was a half day), and they played and played and played Star Wars, in various incarnations, for several hours.

I am thankful that after tomorrow there is only 4 more weeks of school!

I am thankful for the KLUTCHclub box I received in the mail yesterday, jammed pack of terrific products.

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for time with friends, which rejuvenates and de-stresses me.

I'm thankful for Monday morning book club, which has me eagerly looking forward to the beginning of the week, instead of dreading the end of the weekend.

I'm thankful for good books and the ability to read them, something that is easy to take for granted.

I'm thankful that the Easter candy is almost gone.

I'm thankful for Mattie's little obsessions, which currently include sleeping in ballet slippers and wearing shoes at all times.

I'm thankful that Bethany, Connor, and Lucy are like a well-oiled machine in the morning...getting ready for school like pros and never making us late.

I'm thankful that Connor enjoyed his field trip to our state capital yesterday and didn't seem to mind too much that I couldn't go with him. I'm also thankful that one of my friends was chaperoning and I knew she would call me if there were any issues (which there weren't).

I'm thankful for springtime, and watching the neighborhood explode in color as trees and flowers wake up after their long winter nap.

I'm thankful that Chris's awful mouth infection is clearing up and he's not in horrible pain anymore.

I'm thankful for the several times a day that Mattie says, "I cuddle you a minute?" and that most of the time I can drop what I'm doing to indulge her.

I'm thankful that Connor finally got a haircut the other day and that Chris had the girl cut it super short so he won't need another one for quite awhile. And now he looks like TinTin, but without that little flip in the middle.

I'm thankful that Lucy won 3rd place in the school book mark contest that she is student of the month in music, and especially that she is so excited about these achievements.

I'm thankful that my cousin was able to bring his new baby home from the hospital this week, after spending over a week in intensive care.

I'm thankful that maybe we can save our dryer, which we thought was toast & that we're really not in the mood to replace at the moment.

Thankful Thursday

I hope everyone is having a great week! We are on Spring Break, and loving every minute of it! I will be sad to send my kids back to school next week. As always, I have a lot to be thankful for.

I am thankful that Bethany, Connor, and I finally went to see The Hunger Games yesterday, and we all enjoyed it.

I am thankful for all the work Chris has been doing to get our garage and laundry room cleaned out and organized.

I am thankful we got our lawn cut. It really needed it.

I am thankful for a nice dinner at my mother-in-law's last night.

I am thankful for our beautiful weekend in Rogers City.

I am thankful that Aunt Donna is so welcoming and has plenty of room for all of us.

I am thankful that Aunt Nicki and Uncle Bob stayed at Aunt Donna's with us on the weekend.

I am thankful for the new jeans and pink boots Aunt Nicki brought for Lucy.

I am thankful that the kids got to spend time with so many of their family members who they don't get to see very often.

I am thankful we got to hang out at Chris's cousin's farm, which the kids absolutely love.

I am thankful we had pretty decent weather when we were up north, despite snow on the way there.

I am thankful my mother-in-law took a couple days off work so we could go to Rogers City together.

I am thankful for Spring Break.

I am thankful that I have book club to look forward to next week.

I am thankful that I have a Tigers game to look forward to next week. I need these things to look forward to because it's going to be hard saying good-bye to a week off of school.

I am thankful for having a preschool for Mattie that we love. The kids and I all stopped by yesterday to drop off registration and to let Mattie check it out, and it felt so nice to be back. Bethany, Connor, & Lucy all went there and had the same teachers that Mattie will have.

I am thankful that Mattie loved being at preschool and is really excited to start school.

I am thankful that the kids are all super zealous about doing chores now that we told them they can start earning an allowance. We'll see how long that lasts, but for now it's nice.

I am thankful that Chris went to the store last night for some much needed stuff, even though I had told him I would go. It would not have been much fun with my yuck headache.

I am thankful I went to bed fairly early last night, even though there was a ton of stuff I could have/should have been doing, and that I woke up with no headache.

I am thankful that I have summer vacations to look forward to.

Thankful Thursday

It's a cold, dreary March day in Michigan...perfect for cuddling on the couch with Mattie and baking cookies. And of course...counting my blessings...

I'm thankful that my mouth is feeling less and less sore every day & my re-check at the dentist yesterday showed that everything is healing as it should be.

I'm thankful that even though summertime has left Michigan for the time being, yesterday was a beautiful day and I even got a little bit of yard work done.

I'm thankful that I got to meet some friends for breakfast book club Monday morning.

I'm thankful that my friend Tina highly recommended a fantabulous book, which I proceeded to get for my Kindle and read in less than 24 hours. The book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and it is currently on the New York Times bestseller list in the category of children's chapter books. However it is another one of those books, which seems to be so common right now, that pretty much ignores age constraints. In other words, it's definitely adult-appropriate. And it's on sale for $9.99 on Amazon right now (hardcover), or $10.99 for the Kindle edition. The subject matter sounds really depressing, but it's actually a really funny book, to counteract its inherent sadness.

I'm thankful that the kids and I are going up north tomorrow with my mother-in-law for a few days.

I'm thankful that when I pick the kids up from school early tomorrow to head up north, our Spring Break will officially commence. I can't wait for 9 days in a row of no school!

I'm thankful for everyone who has been voting for me in the Wyndham contest. I appreciate the support immensely! (Click HERE to vote!!!)

I'm thankful for morning cuddles with Mathilda after I drove the kids to school today.

I'm thankful that 3 out of 4 kids ate broccoli with dinner last night without complaining about it.

I'm thankful that my wretched skin is starting to clear up a little bit.

I'm thankful that I have a stockpile of cookie dough from a school fundraiser and as soon as I'm done writing this I'm going to get right on baking some cookies, before I work out. So that when I'm done working out I'll have some nice warm cookies to eat. Makes perfect sense, right? My logic cannot be faulted.

I'm thankful that Chris didn't immediately withdraw Bethany from school and send her off to live in a convent after he found the song lyrics she had printed out because she and her friends were going to make a video for the song. I'm not even going to share the name of the song with you. Let's just say...oy.

I'm thankful that I have no errands that I have to run today...there's plenty I could but they can wait. It's just one of those days I'd rather stay home.

Thankful Thursday

I'll be honest, I've had better weeks. But nothing good comes of focusing on the negative, and I always have tons to be thankful for. Such as...

I'm thankful that my ultra congenial Bethany has some truly great friends & that she has been having lots of good times with them.

I'm thankful that Connor got some time with his buddies over the weekend at a friend's birthday party.

I'm thankful that I got to catch up with my crazy busy friend Cathy this week.

I'm thankful for the warmest Michigan March in my memory. My kids are wearing shorts to school. In March, people! I can't even express how uncommon this is.

I'm thankful to everyone who has been voting for me in the Wyndham Women on Their Way contest, and sharing my entry, and saying lovely things about me. Really, I can't get over how nice people are. (Click HERE to vote)

I'm thankful that I made the decision to quit keeping track of my standing in the contest. I do not know if I'm still in the top 10, I can only hope that I am. It was way too stressful, and now I'm at peace. Que serra, serra and all that.

I'm thankful I finally broke down and got dental x-rays a couple months ago, otherwise I would not have known that my tooth which had already had a root canal and had a crown on it was in imminent danger of infecting my jaw.

I'm thankful that yesterday, when I had my appointment to have the tooth in question surgically extracted, the office called regarding a cancellation - which allowed me to get the procedure over with two hours earlier.

I'm thankful for novicaine, which allowed me to be totally pain-free during my oral surgery.

I'm thankful that the surgery is now a thing of the past.

I'm thankful that the dentist prescribed Vicodin, which has been helping me stay more or less pain free.

I'm thankful that I'm not too terribly hungry, which is a good thing because yogurt, ice cream, and smoothies are not all that filling.

I'm thankful for the 3 pounds I've lost since yesterday. See above.

I'm thankful that Mathilda finally fell asleep last night.

I'm thankful that every morning Mathilda wakes up wanting to cuddle.

I'm thankful for all the time my kids have been playing outside lately.

I'm thankful for our new trampoline - thank you again Hilary & Milo!

I'm thankful for the book I just finished reading - Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, by Jonathon Safran Foer. Apparently it is also a movie, so I'll have to check that out too.

I'm thankful that Chris was able to pick the kids up from school yesterday, and his step-dad was able to take Connor to floor hockey, and that my mom was able to pick the kids up from catechism and come over to help me last night while Chris was at band practice. It would have been a rough day without so much help.

I'm thankful that I'm feeling much better today.

I'm thankful that my mother-in-law took Bethany out for some one-on-one time the other night, and bought her a whole bunch of stuff for her upcoming trip to Florida. She needed summer clothes pretty badly, and now she doesn't need nearly so much.

I'm thankful that I realize how much I have to be thankful for.
